Reasons YOU need self care!
Today is International Women's Day. How amazing right? A day just to remember just how strong women are! I love it! Women deal with a lot of things. Two of the biggest things being: sexual harassment and inequality. But women today are breaking to mold of silence! They're standing up! They're speaking out! No matter the cost. So in honor of International Women's Day I thought I'd share with you why YOU need self-care!
If you don't know what self-care is already, let me fill you in. It's doing something that makes YOU happy. Makes you happy to be alive! But most of all it's something that makes you love yourself. Self-care can be serving someone, making a list of things you love about yourself(on the inside and out), going for a walk through nature WITHOUT technology, doing your hair cute, taking a bubble bath, doing yoga, meditating, eating your favorite meal, treating yourself. Anything that would make you love yourself. Anything that would make you happy. Not making yourself a certain way to make other people happy!
We need self-care. Not just women. Everyone needs it. Because we are strong. But we need a break sometimes. Our everyday lives can be exhausting. We need that time to read a good book and unplug from the world. The trials you face are hard. No one can discredit that! You are doing the best you can at being the best you! And now you gotta appreciate yourself & do something for yourself. It isn't something that should happen every few months. It should happen, big or small, every day.
Modern technology is a double edged sword. It's amazing because we have so much at our finger tips. We can reach out to a friend across the world. We can research why our backs hurt. Or if elephants have knee caps. We can buy things with the tap of a screen. And have it at our doors within days. BUT it comes with a price. We have social media and people who can judge us at all hours of the day. No matter the day, time, or circumstance someone can find you. We suddenly care about how many followers we have. Our worth is holding onto a thread with social media holding the scissors. How scary. That is why self-care is needed! We need to be taking care of ourselves because social media puts so much of our worth at stake!
We know that it's important to make yourself happy. And not rely on anyone. But who can honestly say that no one can steal their happiness away? Anyone?...I don't think anyone can honestly say that. If they are, I believe their lying. Because a friend suddenly not talking to you anymore, steals a little bit of my happiness away. A loved one hurting you deeply, steals some of my happiness away. But self-care makes it so we can process through our emotions healither. No one is immune to hurt, betrayal, or distrust towards someone. But with self-care we can just be still. Be in the moment. And enjoy our own company.
Be nice to yourself. We are our worst critics. We are constantly talking down to ourselves. We just don't know how to give ourselves a break. Because of that self-care can truly give us the time to be alone with ourselves and shut the world out. To get to know ourselves. I went to a Relief Society Activity a little while ago and we didn't speed friendshipping. It was so fun to get to know other women. But I was so sad to hear the women who couldn't answer basic questions about themselves. Like what's your favorite hobby? Or what's your favorite color? What's your dream job? The ones who answered confidently, made it clear they showed self-care. One woman said "My job right now. It makes me happy being an ASL teacher." Then looking into her social media? She goes to the gym. THAT is her self-care! I was so happy to see her doing something that made her happy!
We need self-care because that is a moment for is to truly use Christ's atonement. We are sinners. We constantly fall and get back up. Through that we need to learn to love not only our physical self. But our spiritual self. Christ can be that person to present to you reasons to love yourself. He is there. He cares. And self-care can give him the opportunity to cut through the social media, busy life, kids, husbands, wives, jobs, and so much more. He can be there during your self-care to say "I know you. I love YOU. Not the person you pretend to be. You. I see you."
Let yourself do that for yourself. Be kind to yourself. If we all took a little time to be present with ourselves, the world wouldn't be so bad. It'd be just a little healthier, happier, and loving. Show yourself some love today. No matter the cost. Do a 30 day challenge if you don't believe it's all that important. Everyday for 30 days do an act of self-care. And see how you feel by the end. I guarantee you will be a changed person for it.
