Beverly’s Birth Story
I wrote a post about Hudson’s birth so I suppose it’s time for Beverly’s birth to be shared with the world lol. Beverly’s pregnancy went by so much faster than Hudson’s! But I did have a toddler keeping me preoccupied during those 9 months so I guess it makes sense lol. Beverly all throughout her pregnancy was SO ACTIVE! She constantly kicked and started at 14 weeks. I always felt her & even saw her moving so much. She woke me up from how hard her kicks were. I got a little nauseous with her but my main symptom, like with Hudson, was a loss of appetite. I craved Cane’s chicken my entire pregnancy, thanks for those late night runs Garrett lol. And of course after awhile I just couldn’t wait anymore to meet my little girl. I can’t tell you how many times I sobbed to Garrett and my mom saying “Can I just hold her already?! Can I just have my baby please?!”
Fast forward to, Sunday, January 20th. I woke up for church and started getting ready as normal. The only weird thing I noticed were mild cramps and I was having a hard time keeping my legs closed as I sat. Weird I know, but I kept noticing that I couldn’t close my legs. I was sitting like a dude all through church. Then after church I went to my sister-in-law’s house to get a pedicure. Poor Garrett has painted my nails for nearly our whole 2 years of parenthood so I had to give him a break but I couldn’t reach my toes. She told me she knew a number of ladies who swore by castor oil inducing labor. At that point I wanted this girl in my arms so badly that I decided to try it. I got home and mixed 2 tablespoons into a drink, had Garrett stir as fast as he could, held my nose, and downed it through a straw. Then we went to my parent’s to walk around their park. By the time I got there I was NOT in the mood to walk anymore so we chilled. As we left I informed everyone that I drank castor oil & I’d let them know if I went into labor.
So 11 pm rolls around and I’m starting to have REALLY bad contractions. So I decide to take a bath. I laid around until around 3 am trying to sleep or just rest but decided it was time to call it & go to the hospital. I woke Garrett up and told him I needed to go. He put the last minute things into the diaper bag & I called my sister AnnMarie to come over and sleep with Hudson until morning when she could take him back to her house. Then we were off!
We got to the hospital and they checked us into triage where they determined I was at 2 1/2 cm. They took my blood pressure and saw it was REALLY high. So regardless if I was progressing or not they decided to keep me and induce labor. Luckily I was progressing so inducing wasn’t necessary other than breaking my water, but that’s later in the story. So we waited and waited and waited and I kept telling them I go REALLY FAST. But of course even though everyone told me they’d listen to me with my second baby, they did not listen.
I finally got into my room and contractions are getting very intense. My dr was out of town so his colleague came and decided to break my water since my blood pressure wasn’t going down. I warned her that I gave birth 15 minutes after my water breaking with my first. She said she’d be back in a few minutes. Well that dr never showed up again. I’d asked repeatedly for the anesthesiologist to give me an epidural but he came very late. They didn’t check me correctly so I decided to have him give me the epidural. As he put it in my back I was thinking “I think I can feel her head. Maybe I should tell him to stop.” But then I told myself if I can have even 5 minutes of relief, I’m fine with that. Well that did not happen. I was correct and she was coming. Unfortunately the epidural didn’t have time to work & 5 minutes later & 2 pushed later, she was out.
I feel weird saying I went natural with Beverly when he did put the epidural in, but the fact of the matter is that I did go natural. The epidural got to knees by the time she was out & they turned it off immediately after she came out. (Rude, I had to feel the dr stitch me up!) Funny enough the on call dr that delivered Beverly, also delivered Hudson. She was AMAZING! The dr who broke my water was a joke & didn’t take me seriously at all. So I ended up being thankful that other dr sucked so I could have the same on call dr.
With Beverly I felt much more calm. I felt in control. I was able to breath & do small pushes like you should to get her out smoothly. The craziest thing about Beverly’s birth was right after she came out, I heard this waterfall! And all the nurses and dr started freaking out saying my water had finally come out! It was seriously like a waterfall, it flooded all the way to the back of my bed. She had been sitting right at the birth canal and blocked all the water until then. They also said I had a lot of water & that she must have been very active in the womb. Most babies heads are cone shaped from sitting in the birth canal but Beverly’s was perfectly round because of how fast she passed through the birth canal.
She came at 37 weeks and 2 days. She was born on January 21, 2019 at 9:30 am. She weighed 6 lbs 14 oz and was 18 inches long. I felt her namesake present through the birth, my grandma Beverly. I think she was sad but excited that Beverly was coming down to start her mortal life. Because she was early she had bad reflux and gagged almost the whole 1st night because the amniotic fluid in her lungs kept coming up. All the nurses told me how beautiful she was and how she looked like a doll. One nurse told me all the nurses in the nursery were having a hard time paying attention to the other babies because they just wanted to sit and stare at Beverly she was so perfect looking.
All throughout my pregnancy I was faced with hard emotional challenges. Every time I’d call my mom during those times, she’d tell me to picture Beverly. Try to imagine her face, hair, eyes, hands, toes, belly, and skin. Imagining her helped me through so many hard times. Yet she was even more perfect then I could have ever imagined. My mind couldn’t even comprehend her perfection. She is such a sweet little girl. A perfect like addition to our family. A perfect best friend for Hudson. Hudson loves being a big brother. He puts her binkie in for mommy, helps burp her, and LOVES giving her kisses. But most of all, I love my little humans. They’re my reason for being alive. They are the reasons I keep trying to become a better person. Because then I’ll be a better mother to them. They are my purpose.
So there you have it! Beverly’s birth story! I hope you enjoyed it & that it all makes sense. She was made to be with me & I’m thankful to be her mother. If you have any questions about her birth, hit me up! I love talking about my motherhood ❤️
